Who: All members and future members are welcome Hostess: Penycat - please pm her with any questions. When: 12pm - Saturday, December 20th Where: Waxhaw, NC (address and directions will be in the members-only section) What: This will be our First (Hopefully) Annual Holiday Party!!!!
1. Lunch! This will be a pot luck luncheon. Bring your favorite dish/drink/dessert 2. Fish/plant swap. Feel free to arrange to buy, sell, or trade fish and to post things available on this thread. 3. White Elephant Gift - Bring a gift to trade or give. Anything fishy related. (No live fish or plants please)
Let us celebrate the season at Penycat's house. This is not your typical fish meeting. This will be more of a social than an informational meeting. What does this mean, this could be the chance to bring a spouse/significant other/etc to a fish meeting to meet all those geeks you talk about. Thier eyes will not glaze over and they can tell war stories about being attached to a CAAS Geek, I mean fish lover. Lets make this fun for everyone.
Being a male I have no idea what a White Elephant Gift Exchange is all about? I will let Penycat explain in more detail how this will work.
Feel free to post wants, sales, and trades on this thread. Also, post what dish you are going to bring. For us men drinks, chips, plates are an acceptable form of dish!

Here's what I would like: -Anything free LOLOLOL suprise there -Cheap discus or discus fry -small heaters -most kind of plants excluding what I have
Can't wait to see everyone there, and I think the White Elephant thing is great!
Alright! As Paul and I have been talking this is what's been in my mind.
For the meal - I will be making 2 different lasagnas, one will be the regular meat loaded red sauce kind, then a meatless lasagna florentine (spinage) one with no red sauce that's really to die for. And I'll have a holiday punch and of course coffee and teas. I'd like everyone to pick what they'd like to bring for the meal. We'll need Bread - Side Salad - Deserts -
So yes, this is a sit down (all over the house and dinning room table) type meal:)
Now the White Elephant gift game is really fun if you've never played. We'll figure out a limit as to what everyone spends. It's generally between $10 - $15 dollars. For this group I'm thinking it needs to be fish related, not supplies, but gift idea. Things like I saw a fish weather vane at Garden ridge, or that lion fish wind chime that was at the auction as a raffle prize...things like that. Each person needs to bring a gift fully wrapped as they wish (I've seen tiny things wrapped in very large bags/boxes or rocks added for weight to fool the others).
The game starts with each person drawing a number. All the gifts are in the center of the room. Person #1 starts and picks one present and opens it. Then person #2 gets to either pick another present from the pile or if they really like what #1 has, they can take it from them in which case #1 would pick from the pile again. Then #3 goes, they can either pick #1, #2's gifts or from the pile. If they pick from #2, #2 can either take from the pile or take #1's gift and so on. Anytime that someone gets a present taken from them, they then get to chose from the pile or someone else's. The only rule is, if a present is taken from you, you may not take it right back. It goes on like that till the last gift is open/last person goes. Then #1 gets to pick again from all the gifts since they didn't get a chance to at the beginning:)
Sounds harder than it is, it's a fun game...'specially if there's a few gifts that are really in demand, people will snatch them all night long...lol
Then if people want to and weather is permitting, we can have a bon fire outside. The pool is no longer there for those that were here in Sept, so there's plenty of room at our fire for many chairs and large fire and we've got a nice pile of wood all ready to go..so come pyros one and all!
